The National Park Foundation has announced a new president and CEO will begin training December 1 and take the reins February 1, 2025. The foundation’s board of directors introduced Jeff Reinbold as the successor to Will Shafroth, who has led the foundation for the past decade.
NPF is the official fundraising arm and nonprofit partner of the National Park Service. Under Shafroth’s leadership, NPF has increased funding for national parks, created public-private partnerships and leveraged philanthropy and investments to fund NPS initiatives.
Reinbold has spent the past 30 years of his career with NPS, most recently as superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks in Washington, D.C. He has also led the National Park Service Office of Partnerships and Civic Engagement and was involved in the effort to create the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
“Jeff’s decades of cultivating partnerships and grant opportunities across the entire park system will serve him and our partnership well in this new role,” said National Park Service Director Chuck Sams.
As superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks, Reinbold led a staff of more than 200 National Park Service employees and worked with more than 20 partner organizations. The partnerships programs he created include multiple high-profile projects, according to NPF.
“I am honored to join the National Park Foundation, and excited to work with the distinguished Board of Directors, a talented staff, and a growing community of national park supporters,” said Reinbold of his new appointment. “NPF has seen unprecedented growth, and I look forward to building on that success to create even greater impact and help parks not only address pressing needs, but also think about what’s possible.”
