Crystal Cave, a popular tourist attraction in Sequoia National Park, is reopening to the public this summer.
The road, trail and visitor facilities sustained damage during the 2021 KNP Complex wildfire and then again during extreme winter weather in early 2023, according to the National Park Service.
Planning your trip to Crystal Cave
A steep, half-mile hike takes visitors from the cave parking area to the entrance of the marble cavern. The Sequoia Parks Conservancy warns that visiting Crystal Cave requires “physical exertion and may not be suitable for everyone.”
Visitors with with claustrophobia, difficulty walking, heart or respiratory conditions, recent surgery or other physical limitations are advised to avoid the tour. “The cave is also not recommended for young children who cannot walk on their own, and baby backpacks and strollers are not permitted,” according to their website.
Because of the fragile cave formations, only those with tickets for a guided tour can enter. The 50-minute tour is a half-mile loop through the cavern, during which the guide interprets the history and science of the cave.
The cave tours are offered by the Sequoia Parks Conservancy. The park advises visitors to buy tickets online at least 36 hours in advance. To secure plans, visitors can purchase tickets two months in advance. Tickets are not available at the cave.
Tour dates will be available from May 23 to September 7, 2025.
Tour times will be from 9 AM to 3 PM.
