Fat Bear Week has once again come to a close at Katmai National Park and Preserve, and 32 Chunk finally has his time in the spotlight.

Chunk is a male bear described as “very large” and weighing around 1,200 pounds.

The grizzled brown bear is easily identifiable by distinctive scar on his face, and this year he is also sporting a broken jaw, which is healing but never expected to return to normal, according to Explore.com.

The annual contest highlights the individual bears at Brooks Falls, but also helps educate the public on bear behavior. The bears have been gorging themselves on salmon all summer to fatten up before hibernating for the winter.

Katmai’s bears will soon be heading to their dens to hibernate, as they usually begin their season of rest in October and November, according to the park.
