Joshua Tree National Park

Located in Southern California, Joshua Tree National Park sits at the cross section of the Mojave and Colorado desert systems. Flora and fauna in the park and more than accustomed and have adapted to extremes — extreme rain, extreme heat and extreme wind, which have all contributed to sculpted the unique landscape.

You can spot desert bighorn sheep, black tailed jack rabbits, coyotes and kangaroo rats navigating the desert, as well as a number of birds migrating on the Pacific flyway. These animals rely on desert plants, such as the park’s namesake the Joshua Tree. Take a hike or stop on your drive through the park to see the desert ecosystem in action.

Basic Information

Entrance Fee: Standard Entrance Pass
Size: The park covers an area of 1,235.4 square miles (3,199 sq km) with three park entrances.
Operating Schedule: The park is always open and may be visited anytime of year.

Alexandra Glass was visiting the park with her husband when it started to snow.
